Potential Anti Crime solutionsCapetown Web - If we want to achieve anything in the fight against crime we all need to change our mind and work together. The following potential solutions were provided by ONE, hearing impaired person.
You can decide for yourself whether it make sense or not but if just ONE, hearing impaired person can provide such potential solutions, what can be done by tens and hundreds of organisations and people working together?
Instead of different email campaigns the solution is an online petition that all campaigns can use via a shared database. This will not only eliminates the problem of email addresses being harvested by spammers, but the shared effort of many campaigns will also make this petition more powerful than ANY other petition doing the round.
Additional to above, it is also not a petition in the full sense of the word, but rather a database of people that support the project so that it be used as bargaining power to achieve a lot of different things.
The "petition†is also not owned by one person, group or organisation and ALL participating campaigns have equal voting power to decide when and for what to use this bargaining power while the ability to report back to each and every person signed the "petition†also provides far more power and transparency.
Good campaigns, no co-operation
To take the Missing Persons Bureau as example.
There is no doubt that they have the manpower and funding to do a good job and I doubt it that any other campaign or project can match them in this regard.
Due to this NO other campaign should even try to create their own missing persons campaign, as it will be a complete waste of time and energy. Instead there should be co-operation with the Missing Persons Bureau so that, just as the shared petition, ALL campaigns can, if they want, use a shared missing persons database.
The missing persons section on the www.anti-crime.co.za website is such example. We can provide a username and password to the Missing Persons Bureau and they can then keep the missing persons section up-to-date with the latest information.
This section in turn, is linked to more than 200 other town portal websites that will automatic display the updated information. Via the RSS and Webmaster feeds system such information can also easily be distributed to hundreds and thousands of other websites.
E-blockwatch as another example
We was busy to create a project where people can join a database where they can report crime and receive area specific warnings and information via SMS or email but it seems that e-blockwatch already have similar system in place so we dropped the project.
It would make far more sense to rather co-operate with them to use our 100+ websites to support them, than to create a separate project.
Due to efforts to arrange a meeting with them being totally ignored as well as the fact that they charge the public for such service, the question is however how serious are they about fighting crime as the lack of interest in co-operation let me think they care more about their own project and the income side thereof than in anything else.
Real Motives
Crime is such big and emotional issue that it is very easy to misuse it for either financial or promotional gain and there should be some uniform standards and guidelines for anti crime campaigns.
One of the most important factors to determine the real motive and objectives behind an anti-crime campaign should be the willingness to co-operate with other campaigns in an united fight against crime without working against each other.
Public Speeches and Rallies
Celebrities and public figures can play a very important role to draw public attention and support but need to do their homework and in turn support real anti crime campaigns that have a lot to offer regarding effectiveness and value.
Public speeches and rallies draw a lot of attention but in the end it is all useless if that is not used to promote and obtain long term support for campaigns that passed all tests as being effective and valuable in the fight against crime.
In this regard it all comes back to the co-operation between anti crime campaigns as it is the only way how we can separate the wheat from the chaff to make sure that the support of each and everyone are aimed in the right direction.
It is just too easy for anti crime campaigns to misuse the co-operation and trust of celebrities and public figures to gain support for themselves but the fact remain that, if they don't want to co-operate towards a global goal and vision, then what is their real motives and how can they expect the public to co-operate with them?
Lack of co-operation
There are several reasons behind the current lack of co-operation but the most important reasons are.
a) Not enough exposure and media attention to the benefits and possibilities of co-operation between anti crime campaigns.
In this regard there are several reasons for that but the most important is perhaps the media that seems to give preference to sensational issues without considering the fact that they can play a VERY important role to steer the whole anti crime issue into the right direction.
b) Not a clear understanding on how such co-operation can works and be to the benefits of each and every good anti crime campaign
In this regard I can perhaps only blame myself because my English communication skills, as hearing impaired and Afrikaans speaking persons, simply lack the ability to explain everything in detail.
c) Self-importance, hidden agendas and lack of real value that will eventually being exposed as anti crime campaigns started to work together.
With regards to above the following comes to mind and I agree 100% with that.
"A great deal of good can be done in the world if one is not too careful who gets the credit" - Jesuit Motto
Personally I don't give a damn who gets the credit and in fact want to eventually transfer the full control of the project to someone, or a group of people, that was appointed by all involved campaigns. The fact that my business and name appear on the websites is also plain because there is nothing else yet to replace it with.
Currently I am all alone with the whole project, in control of 200+ websites that can have a huge influence to incorporate and promote many campaigns if the power of that can just be realised by those people that matters.
I don't want to be in control or make important decisions because the whole anti crime issue are just TOO important for that and that is why I designed (and are busy to change) everything in such way that each and every effective anti crime campaign can share in the resource and decision making process.
Unity is power but why do current anti crime campaigns just want to unity the public behind themselves, without releasing that real UNITY and POWER to achieve something can only be achieved through the unity of all anti crime campaigns and projects.
